Ultima Festival relocates to NYC

By Tomas Lauvland Pettersen Posted: 10. Mar, 2014

The Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival relocates to NYC in April to present Nordic contemporary and avant-garde’s key composers and performers.

Late April sees the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival relocating to NYC, and in partnership with ISSUE Project Room and the Norwegian Society of Composers, the festival is set to present a vibrant cross-section of the Nordic region’s contemporary scene.

Norwegian works featured on the festival’s NYC programme includes pieces by composers Øyvind Torvund, Arne Nordheim and Magnar Åm performed by among others Frode Haltli and Kristin Norderval. Serena-Maneesh’s piece Somnambulism is also featured on the event’s varied programme.

Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival is the largest contemporary music festival in the Nordic region. This year’s Ultima, taking ‘The Nation’ as its theme, will take place in Oslo between 10–20 September.

Ultima is also set to host Nordic Music Days in partnership with the Norwegian Society of Composers during Ultima 2014, the most important international meeting point for Nordic contemporary music.

The Ultima NYC event represents a perfect opportunity to take in some of the most exciting and challenging contemporary music and past and present avant garde sounds from the Nordic countries.
