Week 20 in Review

By Tomas Lauvland Pettersen Posted: 16. May, 2014

Kygo’s new Coldplay remixes, a revamped concert calendar and new Bernhoft/Sea Change tracks premiered – it’s the Music Norway Week in Review.

Kygo remixes Coldplay

Producer/DJ Kygo joined the ranks of Tiësto, Giorgio Moroder and Urban Contact in making a remake of Coldplay’s single ‘Midnight’. The remix is out this week globally. Retaining the vocals intact, Kygo adds reverbed piano and light percussion on this ambient electronic piece, resulting in a pulsating deep-house rework of the Coldplay original.

Kygo’s 9-date North American tour kicks off on the 29th and is now nearly sold out.

Norway’s Electronic Music Origins

What’s the recipe for those synthesized, captivating sounds of Norway? This week, DJBroadcast International dove into the origins of Norwegian electronic music with a very thorough article, ‘Norway’s Electronic Music Origins’, covering the birth of Norwegian electronic music, tracing its origins back to its late 80s Tromsø infancy as well as giving a contemporary snapshot of today’s blossoming scene.

Need accompaniment for your reading – our playlist ‘Norwegian Electronic’ is the perfect match for DJBroadcast’s not-to-be-missed article.

Concert Calendar revamped

Our concert calendar has gone through a revision this week. We’ve cleaned up the design a bit and added loads of gigs set to take place in the coming months. The web’s most comprehensive listing of Norwegian gigs abroad? Probably, yes. Still, we need input from our readers to make this tool better. Gigs that we have missed, bands not listed, incorrect data – leave us feedback and we’ll sort it out.

Sea Change – new ‘Bridges’ video launched

Fresh off a successful stint at the Great Escape Festival, Sea Change released a new track & video this week. ‘Bridges’, a track set to be released on 7″ vinyl ahead of a debut album, expected later this year, was premiered by This is Fake DIY earlier this week. Wrote TiFDIY: ‘’Bridges’ is a softly-softly mix of illuminated synths and pensive lyrics, a futuristic whirlwind of emotion. And in a new video directed by Marie Hjelmerud, inky spirals surround Sundes as she eyeballs the camera in a cautious stare’. Nothing but Hope and Passion follows up with a cool interview with Sea Change this week.

New Bernhoft single & video

Bernhoft launched a new single and accompanying video this week: ‘Wind you Up’. Next week sees Bernhoft heading out for a European mini-tour. Full details in our new calendar section HERE.

Nordic Playlist

The nineteenth Nordic Playlist was launched earlier this week. This time the Nordic-themed playlist is curated by Ólafur Arnalds – who picked out tunes by Norway’s very own Einar Stray and The Whitest Boy Alive! Tune in HERE.
