The US Nordic Embassies and Washington DC’s Twins Jazz Club join forces to present the eighth annual Nordic Jazz Festival. Internationally acclaimed performers from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden will present contemporary Nordic Jazz over the course of 10 concerts in the US capital.
Norway is represented by The Deciders a new European jazz conglomerate fronted by bassist Ole Morten Vågan, uniting key players from three hotspots in music: Berlin, Stockholm and Oslo. In The Deciders, the musicians join forces, creating a fascinating blend of bristling, loose-limbed improvisations and quirky compositions, dubbed by the Chicago Reader as “killer improvisations seasoned with humor and humility.”
A force to be reckoned on the Oslo jazz scene for more than a decade, Norwegian bass player Ole Morten Vågan has handled the low end for groups like Motif, Håvard Wiik Trio, Ola Kvernberg´s Liarbird and Bugge Wesseltofts NCOJ and is a respected composer and band-leader as well as skillful bass player.
The Deciders line-up: Rudi Mahall (clar), Alex Dörner (trp), Fredrik Ljungkvist (sax), Jon Fält (dr), Ole Morten Vågan (bass)
