Ultima Contemporary Festival unveils 2014 programme

Oslo’s key Ultima Contemporary Festival unveiled its 2014 programme this week, featuring Norwegian entries by appearances by such heavyweights as Karin Krog, Susanna, Jenny Hval, Eivind Buene, Arve Henriksen, Eirik Raude, Maja S. K. Ratkje. The festival runs from 10 to 20 September and has adopted a specific theme for 2014:  ‘The Nation – Political borders, sonic frontiers’

The festival is also hosting the Nordic Music Days in partnership with the Norwegian Society of Composers from 17 – 20 September. http://ultima.no/nordicmusicdays/

by:Larm – 2015 dates set

This week, music industry convention and showcase festival by:Larm unveiled its 2015 dates and offered a glimpse of next year’s programme. From March 4 to March 7, the city of Oslo will once again be filled with people and music as the Nordic festival season kicks off. The event’s 2015 International focus will be on the US market. Mayhem and Cadaver members premiere new outfit: Order

Original Mayhem drummer Kjetil “Manheim” Haraldsson, Mayhem vocalist Eirik “Messiah” Nordheim, original Cadaver bassist René Jansen and Cadaver mainman/guitarist Anders “Neddo” Odden have joined forces in a new project called Order. The new outfit performs repertoire from Mayhem’s and Cadaver’s debut albums, black-metal classics as well as original material. June 24th sees their live debut at Warsaw’s Progresja Music Zone. The gig coincides with the unveiling of a new photo exhibition titled ‘Norwegian Metal in concert’ – a Ministry of Foreign affairs-supported event that depicts Norwegian metal’s current state through the lens of photographer/national radio journalist Per Ole Hagen. Phonofile launches Insights feature

Norwegian content aggravator Phonofile, which supplies content from Norway’s independent sector to streaming and download services across the globe, launched a new feature on their site this week. Phonofile Insights is a series of in-depth interviews with prominent indie music industry thinkers, focusing on relevant subjects for the industry of recorded music. The inaugural posting features Music Ally’s Eamonn Forde talking to Charles Caldas CEO of Merlin, the global digital rights agency for independent labels. Recommended reading.

Nordic Playlist

The latest Nordic Playlist is here. Put together by Tuomas Kallio, chief booker for Flow Festival Helsinki, it features stong Norwegian entries such as Kakkmaddafakka’s classic track ‘Restless’. Check out the full playlist HERE.
