Play Nordic

By Tomas Lauvland Pettersen Posted: 02. Jul, 2014

Play Nordic – a three-month festival celebrating Nordic music and design in Berlin kicks off this week.

Play Nordic is a three-month long festival celebrating Nordic music, design and more at the Nordic Embassies’ Felleshus (open cultural house) from July 4 until October 1, 2014. The event will showcase contemporary furniture and cutting-edge design objects by young Nordic designers in collaboration with a handful of (mainly Nordic) production companies, as well as more hand-picked everyday design objects from all five Nordic countries in the supplementary exhibition Contemporary Collected, curated by Katrin Greiling. The exhibitions will be accompanied by the Oslo Kaffebar Pop-up Café, which will serve high quality coffee and beer for visitors, as well as live concerts, video installations, artist talks, networking events, workshops and more.

Among the visual and music installations promoted in the exhibition space will be Nordic Playlist,  the much loved pan-Nordic curated music website that brings some of the most exciting Nordic sounds to music lovers through their favourite artists and taste makers.

Eary July sees Berlin-based artist Sandra Kolstad performing and teaching at several workshops while saxophonist/opera tenor Håkon Kornstad will play one of his trademark solo shows in October.

Come August, the Riddu Riddu Festival will stage a Berlin subsidiary, featuring a strong programme rife with exciting art exhibitions, readings, film and theater, concerts, children’s festival and seminars.

Late August sees an event staged by the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival and interest organization Musikkbyen Oslo (translation: Oslo Music City).

Early October sees the Bergen International Festival presenting highlights from its strong programme in Berlin.
