Norwegian music publishing company Waterfall Music teams up with German publisher BMG and Budde Music for inaugural Berlin songwriting camp in early Oct.

October 6th-10th sees Norway’s Waterfall Music teaming up with key German publishers BMG Rights Management and Budde Music for an inaugural songwriting session at Berlin’s Phlexton Studios. Over the course of five intense days, Norwegian songwriters are set to join forces with German artists, publishers and producers to score new potential hits.

Says Waterfall Music’s CEO Kai Robøle: – For a number of years, Waterfall has been successful on the Anglo-American markets, bringing Norwegian artists and repertoire out to a wider audience in these territories. After having successfully staged numerous UK/US songwriting camps over the last four years, we have now fully realized the importance of the German market and in partnership with BMG and Budde Music; we are now launching our first camp in Berlin. The camp was initiated and is done in close collaboration with Music Norway’s Central European Office and its head of office Jonas Vebner.

What goes down at these camps one might ask – Robøle has the answer: – Basically, a songwriting camp is a forum where artists, producers and songwriters are brought together and new songs are written specifically for the artists taking part at the sessions.

Artists featured on the Berlin songwriting camp’s ‘Who’s Looking List’, i.e. acts scouting for new material, includes Little Mix, Tamera Foster, Conor Maynard, Stefanie Heinzmann, Christina Stürmer, Glasperlenspiel, Aeria and Medina. Some of the writers present include Carolin Ailin, Odd Jensen (Waterfall Music), Joe Walter, Claus Capek (BMG),
Nico Rebscher, Katrina Noorbergen (Budde Music).

For Waterfall, next week’s events marks a clear shift in strategy for the Norwegian music publishers: – For us, the Berlin camp symbolizes a strengthened focus on Germany – what makes this event quite unique is the fact that we have managed to bring together competing companies in the territory to work for new, strong repertoire for the artists involved.

Seth Hodder, International A&R at Budde Music shares Robøle’s enthusiasm for the upcoming Berlin camp: – Budde Music is extremely excited that our writers are taking part in a writing session with our friends at Waterfall Music and BMG. What, with the talented artists, writers and producers taking part, the briefs we have already received and the participation of label A & R’s, we are looking forward to the creation of some amazing new music and future song placements.

BMG Rights Management’s Sina Wahnschaffe chimes in: – BMG highly appreciates that Waterfall Music and Budde Music share our songwriters and experience in organizing songwriter camps to create an inspiring basis for new songs to arise. The international partnership between Norway and Germany as well as international writers with strong and versatile skills is destined to lead to a fruitful songwriting and networking camp.

The camp is supported by Carlsberg Deutschland, Vitaminwater Germany and Music Norway.
