Warner/Chappell Music Norway-signed Mats Lie Skåre aka Slipmats is a songwriter with a strong track record on the Japanese market. This week, he added another feat to his resume: J Soul Brothers’ single ‘Starting Over’, co-written by Skåre, saw its release this week. The single shifted more than 420 000 physical units in its first day on the Japanese market, propelling the track to No#1 on the official Japanese sales charts.
Warner/Chappell Norway: his biggest Japanese success
Says Warner/Chappell Norway’s Stine Lieng on Skåre’s Japanese chart run: –
– This means a lot to both parties, both Mats as well as Warner/Chappell. Mats is a fantastic songwriter who has worked very hard to achieve the position he now has in Japan. He has paved the way for other songwriters, and contributed greatly to our current position as an attractive partner on the Asian market.
– He can now definitely afford himself a well-deserved pat on the shoulder for his biggest Japanese success so far.
In Lieng’s view, Skåre has more potential hits up his sleeve that can follow in the footsteps of his Japanese chart-toppers: – Definitely! There’s so much exciting stuff going down right now – just wait and see…
From Billboard Hot 100 to No#1 in Japan
Skåre is no stranger to success on the Japanese market – March 2014 saw him racking up another No#1 on the album charts with Koda Kumi´s ´Bon Voyage´ (Avex Trax).
In December 2014, Skåre followed up with another No#1 in Japan with Exile Atsushi’s ‘Love Ballade’ (Rhythm Zone) – an outing that shipped more than 80 000 physical units in its first week on the market.
Over the last five years, Skåre has written chart-topping tracks for such acts as Jennifer Hudson, Eric Saade, Maria Mena, Exile Atsushi and Kana Nishino.
One of his biggest successes came in 2011 with Skåre reaching No#2 on the Billboard Hot 100 with Jennifer Hudson and the hit single ‘I Got This’.
