Rita Engedal and Margit Bakken of Women of Blues

Rita Engeldalen and Margit Bakken are bound for the US with their Women in Blues project.

Women in Blues have toured for more than 12 years. The project, the duo says, is a tribute to well established as well as the unknown women performing and recording blues around the world. Their repertoire include americana, gospel, roots and hill-country blues. The duo have performed in several countries over the last few years. In the beginning of August, Women of Blues are set to headline Sunflower River Bluesfestival in Clarksdale, Mississippi, performing on the festival’s main stage Saturday.

In 2012 Rita Engeldalen won the European Blues Challenge in Berlin, leading to attention from press world wide. Most recently Blues Music Magazine wrote a enthusiastic review of Engedal’s latest albums “My Mother’s Blues” and “Women in Blues – Broken Soul Blues”.

Domestically, one can catch Engedal and Women of Blues at Notodden Bluesfestival and Kongsberg Jazzfestival this summer.
