London By Norse is the brainchild of By Norse, a celebration of Norwegian music and culture founded by Simon Füllemann (All Access Agency), Einar Selvik (Fimbuljod Productions, Wardruna) and Ivar Bjørnson (Peerson Productions, Enslaved).
The event, which will take place in London from March 17-19, will include the first UK performance of ‘Skuggsjá’, originally commissioned to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Norway’s constitution which took place last year, as well as a celebration of Norwegian metal legends Enslaved’s 25th anniversary and an art exhibition by Kristian “Gaahl” Espedal.
‘Skuggsjá’ is composed by Wardruna’s Einar Selvik and Enslaved’s Ivar Bjørnson as a commission piece for the Eidsivablot festival as part of the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian constitution in 2014. The event in London will coincide with an album release of ‘Skuggsjá’ via Season Of Mist Records.
Says Einar Selvik to Metal Hammer: – In the spirit of old Norse tradition on western travel and trade we hope to make more of a cultural imprint with the London by Norse event, and can only hope that this time the tales of our visit will not only be recorded by Christian monks with a political agenda.
Enslaved will perform several times during the event. Three special shows will focus on three different eras of Enslaved’s music.
Simon Füllemann of All Access Agency is one of the founders of the ‘By Norse’ concept. He has this to say about the coming events:
– London by Norse is the prefect kick off for the new concept called By Norse. That this event came together and is taking place in March is just incredible! With my fellow partners Einar and Ivar we created something truly new and exciting I feel. By Norse is a great platform for Norwegaan Art, Music, literature, film and culture and we couldn’t be happier.
