Meet the Norwegian music industry at Reeperbahn

It’s soon that time of the year again when Germany’s most significant showcase festival kicks off.

From the 21-24th of September is Hamburg’s most notorious “Kiez”, well known across the world for its historic venues, rich music culture and for being the beginning of the Beatles’ international career (amongst other things), going to be the center of more than 700 events including 450 concerts. Industry professionals, artists and festival lovers from across the world are expected to be there to meet, discuss, connect and enjoy, and as always will the Norwegian music industry be part of it.

Phonofile

This year’s version of Reeperbahn is going to be a historical one for the digital distribution company. Reason being the ongoing merger between Scandinavia-based Phonofile and Germany-based Finetunes. Managing Director of Phonofile AS, Erik Brataas says in the announcement on phonofile’s web that “After several months of talks and negotiations, we are happy to announce this important step for our companies specifically, and for the international independent community in general.“ In celebration of this historic merger, Phonofile and Finetunes will host a panel talk about the merger and invites all delegates to their networking reception followed by a showcase/afterparty! Waterfall Music // Truls Nergaard

Truls is an A&R in Waterfall Music (Publishing) and MD of Waterfall Artist Services, working with a wide range of artists and songwriters such as Alfred HallCal, Matilda, Egil Olsen, Ida Maria, Ida Jenshus and many, many more. Included is the talented Frida Amundsen aka Cal, which is going to participate in the Reeperbahn version of By:songs. With a long history and back catalog ranging from Susanne Sundfør to M2M, Waterfall Music is one of the most influential publishers in the Norwegian music market.

U OK? // Kristine Bjørnstad

Kristine Bjørnstad ran Cosmos Music’s (Say Lou Lou, Bendik, Kid Astray, Gundelach, Lucas Nord) operations in Norway for four years before starting U OK? with colleague Tim Dunham earlier this year. U OK?s first clients are Norwegian artists Gundelach and Nils Bech. In addition to the label and management Tim and Kristine run US distribution and technology company INgrooves in the Nordic region. Kristine is a board member at the Spellemann Awards (Norwegian Grammy) and was a member of the IFPI Norway board for two years.

MADE // Geir Luedy

MADE (Music Artist Drama Entertainment) was established in 2009 and has become one of the leading companies within Norwegian music industry since then. Developing artists such as AURORA, Sondre Lerche, Razika, Honningbarna, Silja Sol, Megaphonic Thrift and dePresno it is no wonder.

Geir Luedy has featured on some 120 productions as musician, producer and composer and founded the studio called “Lydriket” in 1998 and “Your Favourite Music” in 2003, which both became part of MADE when Geir joined the company in 2012. His first artist in MADE was Aurora who has had an amazing year since she performed at last year’s Reeperbahn festival. At this year’s festrival though, Geir is bringing the 19 y.o dePresno, who is going to perform in St. Pauli Kirche on Friday.

Circle Management // Cecilie Torp Holte

Cecilie Torp Holte owns and runs Circle Management, a company that she established in 2012. Cecilie started her career as Promotion Manager and Product Manager in BMG Norway AS in 1999 working with many big US artists like Alicia Keys all the way to Westlife before she joined Playroom Artist AS and Playroom Music in 2007. On the side of running CM, cecilie is also Board member in “Norwegian Entertainment Managers and Agents Association” NEMAA.

On the list of Circle Management’s clients there are big Norwegian names such as Marion Raven, Violet Road, Christel Alsos, Chris Holsten and Margaret Berger. CM furthermore collaborate with Sony on a lot of artists as well as with Whiteroom and their writers and producers.

Indie Recordings // Peter Liøkel & Jelena Mijatovic

Since Indie Recordings were established as a hobby-project back in 2005 they have experienced solid development into becoming a well-respected label for quality hard rock and metal. With names such as Satyricon, Wardruna, Kvelertak, Shining and Kampfar, on the list it. Representing the Norwegian Hard Rock and Metal label at Reeperbahn is Export manager Peter Liøkel and Digital Marketing Manager Jelena Mijatovic.

Believe Digital Norway // Erlend Gjerde

Believe digital is one of the biggest independent digital distributors in the world and its Norwegian department, Believe Digital Norge distributes labels such as Indie recordings, Voices of Wonder, Drabant Music and artists such as Thomas Dybdhal, CC Cowboys, De Lillos, Raga Rockers, Young Dreams, Shining and more. Erlend Gjerde, along being Managing Director in Indie Recordings, are serving the role as country manager for believe digital Norge, signing labels, artists and so on.

Hacate // Sarah- Chanderia

Sarah-Chanderia founded her first music publishing company in 1984, but she has been a music business professional since 1979.  In 1989, she founded publishing company Hacate Music (ASCAP) in New York City (where she still has a company), soon followed by Vinkona Music (BMI) and KittiKami Music (SESAC). She folded all three companies into Hacate Entertainment Group, LLC in 1998, and works diligently to promote and protect music and those who create it.  Sarah believes knowledge is power, and thus works to educate writers, artists and companies on the workings of the music industry by giving lectures and participating on panels on a wide range of music business subjects all over the world.  She also provides consulting services for those wishing assistance with music and music industry-related issues.
