Folk Musician of the Year

By Victoria Hoseth

Aslak O. Brimi was awarded Folk Musician of the Year during Folkelarm 2016

The Folk Music Awards is the traditional music’s and world music’s own awards, and has been an important part of Folkelarm since the beginning. The award is open to all forms of traditional music by musicians – with backround from Norway or other countries, residing in Norway.

Aslak O. Brimi is a high school teacher, but also holds a folk music degree from the Telemark University College. He is beyond doubt one of Norway´s most important conveyers of traditional music from the Valley of Otta. Aslak also fronts the folk music ensemble Svermere.

Folkelarm is the largest get-together of the international folk- and world music community in Scandinavia. Artists from Norway and the Nordic countries get to showcase in front of a large audience eager to discover new music. The concert program is a mix of the most intriguing newcomers in Norway and the Nordic region, and established and well known artists.
