Nilsen will premiere his new work in Meiningen this week.

Last time we had a Norwegian composer in Das Meininger Theater, it was Edvard Grieg performing «A-moll». February 23rd the stage is set for one of today’s talented Norwegian composers, Torstein Aagaard Nilsen. Thanks to the music director of the theater – Philippe Bach – who saw the talent and felt the need for Norwegian acts on the German scene.

Torstein will perform five of Stein Mehren poems from the collection «Det andre lyset» from 1989. He has on several occasions used Mehren’s poem in music for choir, or as a pure source of inspiration; but now it’s all about the orchestra Meingen Fofkapelle and the Norwegian lyrics performed by the Finnish mezzo singer, Carolina Corgis.

Last year Nilsen won the Norwegian Music Publishers Association’s award in classical/contemporary music genre for his work «Dirty Dancing». The jury stated that Nilsen has got young musicians interested in exploring new music.
