Gjermund Larsen Trio was founded in 2006 by Gjermund Larsen (fiddle), Andreas Utnem (harmonium) and Sondre Meisfjord (upright bass). The trios debut album Ankomst (2008) received Spelleman in the folk music category. Larsen has won class A at Landskappleiken twice, the first time as the youngest fiddle player in history. He also won Spellemann with Majorstuen in 2003, another folk music group consisting of young talent. In 2010 the trio released the album Aurum.
Larsen is considered to be one of the most talented young fiddlers of Norwegian folk music scene, and he has occasionally dropped into other genres with bands such as jazz and improvisation with Christian Wallumrød Sextet, mainstream singer/songwriting with Odd Nordstoga and Maj Britt Andersen, and blues with Reidar Larsen.
