Inga Juuso

Inga Juuso (b. 1945) is a perfomer of the ancient Sapmi vocal style called joik, as it is practiced in the Alta – Kautokeino area. She is employed by Kultur i Troms as a mediator for the joik tradition. Juuso released Ravddas Ravddi in 1991, and in 1999 came Calbmeliiba – Frozen moments – Momentos inolvidables, a collaboration with Johan Sara, Jai Shankar and flamenco musicians Rogelio De Badajoz Duran and Erik Steen.

Juuso has won great critical acclaim for her collaboration with bass player Steinar Raknes in the duo Skaidi in 2008. Inga Juuso Group released Patterns of the Heart the same year. In 2011 she won the Spellemann award for genre crossing Bálggis, a blues/trad/joik album released with group Bárut.
