Japan’s Hostess label is widely regarded as Japan’s largest independent with a roster that includes artists such as Adele, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Sigur Rós, Franz Ferdinand and Vampire Weekend. The Hostess deal covers not solely Japan but also includes South East Asian territories.
Says Hostess’ Andrew Lazonby on their Higasakite signing: – We are all very excited about Highasakite and the album. The office loves it.
The Japanese enthusiasm is shared by Universal Music Australia’s staff. Says Universal Music/Caroline’s George Dalziel:
– Having closely followed the band’s international development over the last 12 months we’re incredibly excited to work with and develop Highasakite in Australia, their raw, evocative, emotional and intelligently constructed repertoire will translate well in the Australian market place.
Both deals are licensing deals with Norwegian parent label Propeller Recordings licensing their rights to their Australian and Japanese partners.
Propeller Recordings’ Fridthjof Hungnes is highly pleased with the recent signings:
– We are very excited to have Hostess and Caroline/Universal on board. Both are strong players in their respective territories and were on the top of our list of potential partners. We’re witnessing a clearly growing international attention for the band, and with Hostess and Universal Australia on the team we feel that the international team backing up Higasakite is beginning to look the part.
Higasakite are confirmed for a March 11th performance at SXSW in Austin, TX and are also set to play London’s Birthdays on February 19th. European spring tour dates are expected to be announced in the near future.
