Extensive US tour for Jenny Hval in March/April

Jenny Hval heads out on extensive tour of the US in late March.

Late March sees Jenny Hval heading out on an extensive US tour that includes a stint at Big Ears Festival and concerts in the Mid-West and West-Coast.

Last year saw Hval touring the East Coast in support of the US release of her fourth album ‘Innocence is Kinky’, and she is now set to build upon the momentum gained with 17 concerts in late March to mid-April.

Jenny Hval has in recent years made a name for herself as a writer, journalist, recording artist and sound artist both in Norway and abroad. When her third record Viscera was released in 2011, Italian Vogue described her as: “an artist of significant competence, both musically and intellectually.” Multidisciplinary and transgressive are words often employed to describe her art, but Jenny Hval’s polyphonic artistry is in fact seamlessly interwoven between musical, literary, visual and performative modes of expression. Despite her young age, she has already infused, carved and modulated an artistic voice that is altogether present, accessible and obscurely complex at the same time.

a fearless performer and artist, who knows no boundaries and is incapable of compromising.” The Milkfactory

Under the moniker Rockettothesky Hval released albums ‘To Sing You Apple Trees’ (2006) and ‘Medea’ (2008) on Trust Me Records. Hval since joined the ranks of the Rune Grammofon label and switched to releasing albums under her own name, starting with 2011’s ‘Viscera’. Her latest outing is 2013’s ‘Innocence is Kinky’ (Rune Grammofon). In-between the two critically acclaimed albums came the ‘Nude on Sand’ album with Håvard Volden released on noted impro-label SOFA. Hval is frequently published as a novelist, essayist and freelance writer, and is also a sought after curator.

Hval’s fourth album, ‘Innocence Is Kinky’, was recorded at Toybox Studios, Bristol, with producer John Parish, lauded for his work with PJ Harvey, Giant Sand and Sparklehorse.

Wrote The Quietus in its review of ‘Innocence is Kinky’: ‘Hval has created a work that tears down our neatly demarcated distinctions – between good and bad, pleasure and horror, innocence and kink. ‘Innocence Is Kinky’ is a remarkable album, one which delves beneath the surface and returns with something both seductive and strange.’
