Running from August 11th to 16th, the 2014 Oslo Jazz Festival is another highlight on the Norwegian capital’s strong festival calendar.
2014 highlights include Karin Krog and Solveig Slettahjell performing with Michel Legrand, Tord Gustavsen’s Extended Circles, Atomic, Elvira Nicolaisen & Mathias Eick, Lill Lindfors, Helge Lien Trio, Pixel, John Surman & Bergen Big Band and Django Bates’ Beloved.
Monday 11th of August sees the Oslo Jazz Festival’s 2014 opening concert unfolding at The Norwegian Opera & Ballet, featuring a new work penned by composer and pianist Tord Gustavsen.
The work is based on the warm soundstage from the blockbuster Tord Gustavsen Trio (Tord Gustavsen – piano Mats Eilertsen – bass Jarle Vespestad – percussion) and moves on to a commission where Gustavsen introduces the young singer Synne Sanden. The ensemble is expanded with several strong lyrical voices at this concert. The lineup consists of Tord Gustavsen on piano, Synne Sanden on vocals, Tore Brunborg on sax, Mats Eilertsen on bass, Jarle Vespestad on drums, Arve Henriksen on trumpet, Svante Henryson on cello and electric bass and Audun Kleive on drums.
Since its foundation in 1985, the Oslo Jazz Festival has presented annually a wide-ranging festival line-up. The program represents a broad spectrum of jazz and related music, from gospel and blues to latin jazz and electronica.
Past highlights on the festival’s roster include such international acts as Phil Woods, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Bobby McFerrin, Brad Meldau, Django Bates and Illinois Jaquet Big Band.
