Norwegians flock to Oslo’s grand opera house: the Norwegian Opera & Ballet’s ticket sales soars to new heights.

Seven years after openings doors the public, Oslo’s opera house continues to expand its customer base: in 2014 more than 300,000 attended performances at the Norwegian Opera & Ballet, setting a new record for the institution.

In 2014, a total of 485 performances were staged Oslo’s grand Opera House as well as on tours at home at abroad. The Norwegian Opera & Ballet’s events were attended by a total of 309,445 in 2014, up from 299,647 in 2013.

Says managing director Nils Are Karstad Lysø of the Norwegian Opera & Ballet: – We’re glad to see that attendance figures after the move to the new Opera House (in 2008) are still holding up at a high level. Lysø also expresses gratitude in that the public is also “taking a chance” on performances of new operas and new productions of opera and ballet in Oslo.

Around 29,000 people attended the ballet alone in 2014, setting a new record. The ballet company put on 92 performances on the main stage in Oslo last year.
