The third Only Connect Festival, staged by nyMusikk in Oslo, unfolds this weekend.

This year sees nyMusikk, Norway’s Oslo-based centre for new music and sound art, inviting audiences and music industry execs to a journey ‘inwards and downwards’ into the music under the festival banner ‘The Deep’. The Only Connect Festival is staged from 4th to 6th of July.

The festival offers a glimpse into the mindset of the composers and performers featured at Only Connect, as they delve into the festival theme of ‘The Deep’. Much-anticipated ‘The Deep’ performances include recent Venice Biennale-featured artist Camille Norment in collaboration with David Toop, Jenny Hval at the Black Box Theatre, new works by Maja S.K. Ratkje (Vannstand) and Susanna (Mass for the Witch Woman) as well as the premiere of a unique new work penned for a giant octobass, played by Guro Moe.

The audience is also treated to Q&A sessions with hip-hop writer Dave Tompkins and composer Helmut Lachenmann as well as a talk by writer David Toop on ‘The anechoic chamber’.

Says Sofie Ringstad, Music Norway’s project manager for contemporary music: – nyMusikk are doing an important job for international promotion of Norwegian contemporary music. They are generous in sharing their network with us, and do a great job by inviting international industry and media to festivals Off The Page and Only Connect in Oslo. Music Norway is pleased to be able to contribute with promo support for this year’s Only Connect, and will be present throughout the festival.
