Highasakite started initially as a duo when vocalist Ingrid Håvik and drummer Trond Bersu met while studying jazz at the Jazz Conservatory in Trondheim. Håvik and Bersu continued to add partners in a studio session that lasted six months and ended up in a collection of songs which was named All That Floats Will Rain and released early 2012.

Before the critically acclaimed album debut the band got airplay at NRK Urørt, but after they hit the festival circuit and played high profile Norwegian festivals such as Øya, Hove, Pstereo, and international showcase festivals like Iceland Airwaves, Berlin Music Week, Eurosonic and SXSW. The latter was their American concert debut, and Highasakite have also released a five song mini-album named In and Out of Weeks, aimed at the American market.
