a-ha fans have every reason to be excited.

December of last year a-ha announced a major comeback concert at Rock in Rio, where in 1991 the group did their biggest show to date – before no less than 198.000 people on Maracanã Stadium. This year marks Rock in Rio and a-ha’s 30th anniversary and to celebrate, the group has been invited back to the huge festival one more time.

Today, a-ha fans have more to celebrate as the band released their first new single in five years. ‘Under The Makeup’ premiered on BBC 2 Thursday and is now available to stream on your streaming service of choice. The grand track is written and composed by a-ha’s Paul Waaktaar Savoy with orchestra arrangements by Jaga Jazzist’s Lars Horntveth and features several strings and horns in symphony with Harket’s disitinct vocal range.

As the group is releasing new material, their biggest hit yet is set to get a remake from another Norwegian sensation. Tropical house artist/DJ/producer Kygo will remake a-ha’s classic ‘Take On Me’ for Apple Music. In an interview with Norwegian daily Dagbladet, Magne Furholmen said the producer has made som “ballsy moves”, removing the famous keyboard riff from his version. “Take On Me” was released in 1985 and marked the first time a Norwegian band topped the Billboard chart. The original track is still played in heavy rotation on radio stations worldwide, with almost 80 000 spins in the year’s first five months.

“Under The Makeup” is the first single from the group’s upcoming album ‘Cast In Steel’ due this fall, around the time of their huge Rock in Rio concert.
