Christmas has arrived to Top Ten

By Erlend Buflaten Posted: 10. Dec, 2014

The Norwegian Top Ten is dominated by Christmas favorites this week.

Everyone has their own Christmas track. The one they put on when they feel the rush of Christmas spirit running through their body. In 2010 Kurt Nilsen and Kringkastingsorkesteret recorded ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’, an album that’s been synonumous with December for thousands of Norwegians ever since. So it doesn’t come as a surprise to see three songs from the four year old album on the Norwegian Top Ten this week;

Himmel på jord‘ is the second most streamed Norwegian track on WiMP and the fifth on Spotify. Norwegian singer Helene Bøksle features on ‘Gje meg handa di venn‘ which takes 8th place on WiMP. ‘Stjernesludd‘, the third song from the album is number 9 on Spotify.

Another Norwegian Christmas favorite is Maria Mena’s ‘Home for Christmas‘. The song has found a special place in Norwegians Christmas traditions. It is amongst the most popular every december and has been since it was released as the title track for the movie ‘Hjem til jul’ in 2010. The track is number 6 on Spotify and 9 on WiMP this week.

But it’s not all Christmas; OnklP & De Fjerne Slektningene contines to top WiMPs chart, but fall one on Spotify, meaning it’s out of the top three. They can blame Kygo’s first original ‘Firestone‘ who take the number 1 spot on its first week! It’s also new on WiMP, but have to settle with 10. as his remix of ‘Younger‘ still is one of the most streamed tracks, falling one down to 5. this week.

We don’t expect to see fewer Christmas tracks on our list next week, but will they reach the top?
