Kygo announced as face of Apple Music

Apple announced a major partnership with Norwegian house sensation Kygo on their opening day of new streaming service Apple Music.

Kygo has yet to release his debut album, but has already become one of the most sought after artist and producer in the world. He’s first single Firestone has now passed 210 million streams on Spotify alone and he’s sold out a world tour. His latest milestone comes with the huge partnership with Apple Music.

The deal will make Kygo one of the faces of the new streaming service, including billboard ads, video content and a track release through the service. Although content and ads are yet to be released, you can already now see Kygo playing the piano when entering Apple Music’s website.

Larry Jackson of Apple Music told Billboard how excited he is to be working with the Norwegian artist, DJ and producer.

– My excitement to work with Kygo on this idea was abundantly clear to anyone who was within five feet of me these past few weeks, I couldn’t stop talking about it.

– I’ve really enjoyed working together with Apple to help launch their new streaming service, Kygo tells Billboard

The partnership will see Kygo remake another hugely popular Norwegian act, A-ha. Kygo will do an official remix of their classic hit ‘Take On Me’, which will be made available on Apple Music.

The new streaming service has made headlines long before it was announced earlier this month. Following the announcement, Apple received a lot of criticism for asking rights holders to withhold their royalty claim in the free three month trail period every new subscriber gets potentially giving rights holders a huge drop in revenue in this period. After massive protests from the independent sector in the industry (and a well reported open letter from Ms. Swift), Apple’s senior vice president for internet software and services Eddy Cue tweeted that the company would payout royalties in the trial period.

Apple fans as well as the music industry have been eager to test the service to see if it’s as innovative as Apple has said. Early releases says it’s not there yet, but with over 800 million Itunes accounts (and credit cards) already in hand, Apple has a huge advantage over its competitors.
