Large Norwegian delegation to Womex 2019

WOMEX – The World Music Expo – is held in Tampere, Finland, from October 23.-27.

WOMEX is considered one the most popular international gathering points for traditional and world music globally. This year, 18 companies and 26 people will participate at the Norwegian stand. Additionally, 11 people are registered at the Sami booth.

Norway is as usual strongly represented in this year’s edition of WOMEX in Tampere, Finland, which marks the 25th edition. From October 23rd to 27th  participants can experience a trade fair, talks, films and a showcase festival.

FolkOrg, Folkelarm , Førdefestivalen, Grappa Musikkforlag, Interkultur Drammen, Julia Valentino Music, Kirkelig Kulturverksted, Music Norway, Nordic Live, NRK, OkWorld / Jazzland, Oslo World , Riksscenen, RYK Network for Music Business Development In Northern Norway, SafeMUSE / LIDIO, Solid Musikk, Sunnfjord Kommune, Universitet i Agder, Audioland, Riddu Riđđu Festivála, Sahkkon AS, Sami Composers Association and Sami Music Expo.

Since WOMEX 2019 is held in Finland this year, there is a greater focus the Nordic countries. The export offices have merged into a Nordic Village where the reception, meeting and mingle areas are shared to a greater extent.

Sami music is also an important focus area this year and Norway will send artist Elle Marja to do the showcase on what is called “Northern Connections Stage”. She will also attend a panel debate on joik with musicians Andreas Fliflet and Klemet Anders Buljo.

– There is growing interest in Nordic traditional music, and we are involved in several projects moving forward that will help strengthen both Sami music and the brand “Nordic Folk”, both internally in the Nordic countries and in markets such as the USA, Canada and Germany, says Aslak Oppebøen, project manager at Music Norway.
