12 Norwegian bands are set to play

We’re gearing up for festival season with SPOT in Aarhus, Denmark next week. The 20 year old festival focuses on Danish and Nordic artists and last year over 1500 delegates attended. Every year it attracts a strong delegation of Norwegian bands and industry.

Five representatives from the Norwegian industry have been given travel grant to attend the festival.

Rytmisk Sal – Musikhuset

Only 22 years old, Kristoffer Cezinando has been part of the Norwegian hip hop scene for years. At 16, he released his first EP and since then he has released another EP and three full-length albums. The 2017 album “Noen ganger og andre” received great acclaim from the Norwegian critics, and he has won several Norwegian music awards. His explosive gigs have earned him a rep as a great live act.

Rytmisk Sal – Musikhuset

Few Norwegian acts are enjoying as great a hype as the indie pop band Hajk, whose debut has not only received plenty of kudos from the Norwegian press, international media such as Noisey, Line of Best Fit, Drowned In Sound, Clash Music and The Independent have also fallen for their sophisticated pop sound and not least the magic between the two lead singers Sigrid Aase and Preben Sælid Andersen.

Jakob Ogawa

Oslo-resident Jakob Ogawa mixes elements from film, art, and music in a refreshing and expressive universe, for which he finds his inspiration all over the world. Although the 20-year-old musician has only released a few singles and an EP, “Bedroom Tapes” (2017), he has already whetted the appetite of several music media, including Clash Magazine, who described him as “a 19-year-old prodigy from Norway”.

In just one year LÜT have established themselves on the Norwegian music scene. They have not least been praised for the live performances. They were singled out  as one of the three highlights at the festival by:Larm, and they have had two singles in rotation on NRK P3. Their debut album “Pandion”, released in 2017, stands out as an irresistible fusion of punk recklessness and pop appeal.

Pasha is one of the most exciting hip hop acts emerging from Norway’s rap scene right now. He has already created a buzz in media such as NME and Highsnobiety with his unique and playful style. Pasha’s sound is nostalgic 90’s vibes blended with quirky and funky Hip-Hop as can be heard on his single “Around The Area”. Pasha started 2018 off with a new single “I Don’t Speak French”, which has already been played a lot on Norway’s biggest radio stations.Spiller flere gange under SPOT.

The trio SASSY 009 is the latest addition to the list of gifted Norwegian pop acts, who are in full blossom these years. SASSY 009 excel in electronic pop productions with heavy beats, dreamy vocals and a characteristic recorder. Their sound finds a perfect balance between pulsating club atmosphere and quiet contemplation.The 2017 debut EP “Do You Mind” has been praised by several international music media.

Rytmisk Sal – Musikhuset

Sturle Dagsland’s musicality is exciting and experimental. The band, consisting of the brothers Sturle and Sjur Dagsland, employ so many different instrumentations and sounds that it is hard to apply traditional genre labels without taking away its uniqueness, but the animal quality of Sturle’s heartfelt vocals is definitely a central part of their sound. Despite only few releases, they have already toured all over the world.

9 Grader Nord – Music Cities Showcase

9 degrees north of the Equator lies the exotic island Sri Lanka, where most of this eclectic band originate. With instruments such as the bamboo flute, guitar, and the cajón, 9 Grader Nord perform ragas from A to Z. Their sound is best labeled as energetic, mysterious and rhythmical. The band debuted at the Bergen festival Festspillene, and they have played numerous gigs at jazz festivals in Norway since then.

‘Ane Monsrud is like Susanne Sundfør’s little sister who has been listening to jazz records instead of synth pop’, writes Bands of Tomorrow about this artist. With her honest lyrics and Nordic sound, the singer takes the listener on a  journey into her atmospheric universe. Together with her partner Torben Jensen, she creates an intimate wall of sound and stylish beats that you can feel in your gut.

Katapult – Godsbanen

VIAN kicked in the doors to the Norwegian pop scene in 2017 with their distinctive, spherical, and mesmerising songs, which fuse organic and electronic elements in a sound that is equally moving, heartfelt, and original. The single “Hvit Støy”  was ‘track of the week on NRK P3, and the debut album “DIAFON” got brilliant reviews in the paper Fædrelandsvennen and on NRK P1 and became NPS Music’s ‘album of the week’.

EXCITE is an innovative talent network for the development of new artists by providing high-level opportunities at 15 festivals in 13 European countries.

Wet Dreams – Gutter Island

Wet Dreams is a project with people from Death By Unga Bunga, FOAAAM and Warp Riders. The members found a collective interest for modern American psychedelic hard rock and punk, and has done a number of shows in Oslo after they started up in 2015. The band they released their debut EP, ‘Cartridge Belt’, and in as of January 2018 they’ve started recording their debut album.
