The jury’s statement:
There were many candidates for the International Success of the Year of 2018. However, there was one that stood out from the crowd. The candidate can look back at amazing work in the hemisphere of Norwegian pop. As mentors and advisers for the newly established Lillehammer Institute for Music Production & Industries (LIMPI), which gathers national and international musical talent, they have provided guidance and help. The candidate is the only Norwegian company that has been involved in songs that have hit number one one the “Billboard Hot 100 list” ten times.
Throughout 2018 they were involved in a number of albums, singles and remixes, and cooperated with artists such as David Guetta, tinashe, Offset, Future, Ne-Yo, Bebe Rexha og Stefflon Don and Sabrina Carpenter. The song “Issues” by Julia Michaels was nominated for a Grammy.
They were also contributors to Coldplay’s project “Global Citiizen – EP 1,” a project formed to fight extreme poverty, and included other artists such as Stormzy and Pharrel Williams.
They co-wrote and co-produced Khalid’s big hit “Better,” which was released in September 2018, and quickly reached #29 on the Hot 100, and #12 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs. Better continued its rise and peaked at #8 on Hot 100 in 2018, continuing climbing into the new year and reached #1 on Hot R&B Songs in 2019.
Their contributions to the export of Norwegian music cannot be overestimated. It is therefore with great pleasure and pride that we give the prize for International Success of the Year to Stargate, Mikkel Storleer Eriksen and Tor Erik Hermansen!
