Vikings are hotter than ever. Over 40% of festival passes to Midgardsblot Festival have been bought by people outside of Norway.

Between August 18. – 20. the second edition of Midgardsblot Metal Festival takes place in Borre, about an hour drive from Oslo. Last year the festival was praised for its mix of music, food and culture. With the festival taking place in a protected heritage site from the Viking age, visitors were brought back to experience how the mythical people lived and worked.

Since its inaugural edition last year, word of the unique festival has spread throughout the world. This year the festival sees a massive response outside of Norway’s borders, with over 40% of passes sold to people outside Norway and nearly 20% just to USA and Canada.

– We see massive interest for Midgardsblot internationally, especially in USA and Canada, says festival director Runa Strindin.

– I believe the interest comes in the wake of the HBO show Vikings where Wardruna have written music. It’s also a big draw to be able to invite the audience into the historic grounds of Borre and show authentic Viking culture like our rejuvenated Viking mead hall.

Wardruna and Enslaved are set to headline the festival this year with solo shows as well as Ivar Bjørnson and Einar Selvik performing their joint project Skuggsjá.

Wardruna have played a major role in the successful TV-series ‘Vikings’ where Selvik has contributed composing music for the show. The band will premiere songs from their upcoming third album “Ragnarock” when they play Midgardsblot in August.

The line-up also includes Together with Melechesh, Inquisition, Tsjuder, Månegarm, Skálmöld, TrollfesT, Hamferd, Kirkebrann, Folket Bortafor Nordavinden, Blot and L.E.A.F.
