Industry Talk: Svanhild Skrede from Sony Music Norway
She is one of the many Norwegians heading to Brighton for The Great Escape
Svanhild Skrede works for Sony Music Norway as an A&R Manager, something she has been doing for the past three years. During her last year of her Bachelor’s degree in Music Management, she applied to Sony Music Norway’s A&R Academy. This led her to the position she is in today, where she since has worked with artists such as Jesper Jenset, SJUR and for the last two years her main focus has been Marcus & Martinus.
She is ready for this year’s edition of The Great Escape in Brighton, and will be travelling with a bunch of Norwegians to the coastal city. We had a chat with her about that, and her thoughts on the Norwegian music scene and industry.
“Why are you travelling to Brighton this year? What do you hope to go home from The Great Escape with?”
“I’m traveling to Brighton this year because I think it´s a great way of meeting new people and to build my network in the UK. I attended the festival three years ago, and I’m really excited to be back, and to see a lot of great artist perform!”
“What has been on your to-do-list lately, and what takes most of your time?”
“Preparing for upcoming releases, and also arranging a songwriting camp together with Arctic Rights in Oslo next week, so that’s been on my to-do-list these days.”
“The most important piece of advice you have ever received?”
“Don’t spend too much energy on a something that you probably have forgotten about in a year.”
“Any helpful tips and tricks for a way around the industry?”
“Be committed to what you say and do.”
“Why Norway, why now? Where are we going?”
“We are surrounded by so many great artists, writers and producers, which is a privilege and very exciting for everyone in the Norwegian industry! I believe the creative communities will continue to grow, and we´ll see more and more international artists, writers and producers coming to Norway to make music.”
“Who in the Norwegian music industry deserves a high five?”
“I want to give a high five to Mats Solvang for all the great work he has done with Ruben, and how he is building his management, Plexus. Also a huge high five to all the great artists, writers and producers!”
