With more than 130 film, television and soundtrack projects behind her, Los Angeles-based music supervisor Rebecca Rienks knows what it takes for a song to make it from a pitch to the screen. Her work spans acclaimed independent films, major television productions, documentaries and high-profile advertising campaigns – including projects for HBO and Super Bowl spots.

In conversation with Kristine Bjørnstad (Tendril), Rienks takes us inside the world of music supervision: How does she find music? What makes a song work for a scene? Rebecca Rienks is a Los Angeles-based music supervisor who has worked on more than 130 film, television and soundtrack projects, as well as numerous advertising campaigns. Her credits include acclaimed series such as True Detective, The Gilded Age, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America. Her recent work also includes HBO Max’s The Chair Company and the independent film She Dances, starring Steve Zahn and Ethan Hawke. A lifelong music fan and self-described “music agnostic,” Rebecca still believes in getting to the festival early and always catching the opening act.

Kristine Bjørnstad runs Tendril, a modern rights management company working with independent artists, songwriters, composers and producers. Tendril manages boy pablo and represents writers and producers including bob junior, Nils Martin Larsen, Konradsen and Bendik Hovik Kjeldsberg, currently scoring Lave forventninger, directed by Eivind Landsvik and starring Marie Ulven. Kristine brings extensive experience from across the music industry, having previously founded 777 MUSIC and Sounds Like Gold and led Ingrooves’ (now Virgin) expansion into the Nordic market. She currently sits on the boards of Musikkforleggerne and Music Norway.
