Øyafestivalen wins two international green awards

A Greener Festival Awards 2019 was held in London last night, and Øyafestivalen in Oslo won two of the highly regarded prizes.

The main prize “International Greener Festival Award” as well as the “AGF Circular Festival Award” (for reduced waste & resourcefulness) were awarded to Øyafestivalen for their continuous work on creating a sustainable festival. The awards are huge inspiration for further environmental work and sustainable festival development.

Environment Manager at Øyafestivalen, Mia Frogner, was present during the ceremony: – This is a result of collaboration between everyone who works with the festival, partners, suppliers and the city of Oslo. We have achieved this by believing that we can achieve things that seem impossible. A big thank you to our partner Natur & Ungdom (Nature & Youth), and Øya’s bar department for the fantastic job with recycled glass, which helped towards winning the AGF Circular Festival Award in addition to the main prize.

About AGF Awards

Not for Profit organization A Greener Festival have announced the shortlists for the 2nd International AGF Awards which shines a light on the leading festivals striving to reduce waste and emissions and enhance equality and ecosystems. Awards are given across 10 important sustainability categories, including the top accolade of the International Greener Festival Award 2020.

Nominees are selected from those certified by A Greener Festival following a detailed environmental assessment, site visits and post show analysis by trained sustainable event auditors. To enter the awards, it is necessary for events to apply for an assessment and to provide evidence such as fuel or electricity and water usage, waste transfer notes, transport measurements, procurements policies and traceability, and survey data. This process was undergone by festivals from 18 countries over 5 continents in the past 12months.
