Since the start of the programme in 2003 a total of 4561 shows by 1711 European artists from 38 countries were presented at 130 ESNS Exchange festivals (2003 – 2020). Over the years, the programme has made an impeccable impact and it still continues to grow.

ETEP consists of over 130 festivals, 32 radiostations og 24 partners.

Why is there a need to exchange European artists?

ETEP was implemented due to the great difficulties that European pop music is experiencing in international promotion and distribution. Historically, the Anglo-American repertoire has been the main focus of professional music distribution and marketing. Despite its great diversity and quality, European music has lagged behind. Therefore, ETEP was initiated to stimulate cooperation at the cultural, business and media levels in the European music industry to develop a solid network to promote, support, motivate and encourage the free flow of creative European musical talent across the continent.

Impact

Since the start of the program in 2003, ETEP has facilitated 4,144 shows with 1531 artists in 37 countries, and we are very proud to have contributed to the careers of so many talented European musical talents. Many of the artists who received support from ETEP at the beginning of their careers have grown to be very successful. Over the past 17 years, artists such as Aurora, Sigrid, Agnes Obel, Ásgeir, Ben Howard, Benjamin Clementine, Calvin Harris, Franz Ferdinand, James Blake, MØ, Noisia, Selah Sue, The Editors, The Kooks, The XX, Within Temptation and Years & Years benefited greatly from the support of the ETEP program. More recently, artists such as Idles, Shame, Alma, Aurora and Dua Lipa played some of their first international shows with support from the European Talent Exchange Program.
